The Bikepacking Essentials Series - FAQ

  • What if I can't make all, or some, of the events, do I get a refund?
    • We will only be able to offer a refund on tickets to the TBES before the 23rd Jan 2023, minus a 20% administration fee.
  • I have never ridden a bike before, is this event suitable for me?
    • No, the TBES is not suitable for you.
  • What level of fitness is required to take part in the TBES?
    • You should be exercising at least once a week for more than 45 minutes to be ready for TBES.
    • You should possess the physical fitness to ride at a relaxed pace, with stops, for one hour (off road), or a two hours (sealed roads) to be ready for TBES.
  • I am a regular user of the Munda Biddi, is this the right event for me?
    • Novice to intermediate riders of the Munda Biddi will find TBES very useful, there is so much to learn and we will cover all aspects of multi-day rides.
    • If you have completed overnight, multi-day rides or an E2E on the Munda Biddi, the TBES can still teach you plenty of tips and tricks, but the series is predominantly aimed at newer riders with limited Munda Biddi experience.
  • Can children participate in the TBES?
    • The series is not suitable for children.
  • Can I bring my family down with me on the weekend stays?
    • Get in touch with us, the accommodation on stages 2, 3 & 4 will most likely be suitable.
  • What type of bike do I need?
    • A well-maintained mountain bike w/ front suspension (dual suspenion is also suitable,) a gravel bike with at least 42mm wide tyres, or an adventure bike.
  • Can I bring my E-Bike?
    • Most certainly, you will just have to wait for the rest of us at the top of the hills!
  • Do you hire bikes?
    • Not directly. Please get in touch if you need recommendations on bike hire. Do not purchase a TBES pass before securing a bike.
  • Where can I store my car when we do the overnighter (stage 5)?
    • We are working towards having a monitored parking spot for the duration of the ride (May 27-28). Watch this space, more info coming soon.
  • I am a competent rider already but I would like to improve my bike mechanic skillset, can I come to one stage only?
    • The mechanics course is only available by purchasing the TBES pass.
  • What type of accommodation will we be staying in?
    • At the Loose Goose (Stages 2 & 3), guests have the option of bringing their own caravan/camper, tent or swag. We also have 18 mattresses which can be used inside the general function area. BYO linen.
    • Stage 4 at Donnelly River Village, the accommodation is in the Old Boarding House and the old school building, both with kitchen, sitting room and bathroom with toilet. Either site includes towel and pillowcase.
    • Stage 5 is at the Karta Burnu Munda Biddi campsite - you will need your own inflatable mattress, pillow and sleeping bag.
  • What happens if you are unable to make it due to circumstances beyond your control?
    • Hopefully you will be able to make the majority of the face-to-face sessions. We will only be able to offer a refund on tickets to the TBES before the 23rd Jan 2023, minus a 20% administration fee.
  • What if I am injured whilst at the event?
    • At all events, we will have a First Aid Kit and qualified First Aid person in attendance. On rides, we will have a minimum of two staff with walkie-talkies, satellite SOS communications devices and First Aid qualifications. The MBTF has comprehensive public liability insurance in the event of an accident.
